👤I can't recommend against this modem enough. I almost broke down in tears when I tried to fix the faulty ports on my original one, and I don't cry easily. I'm a college-educated programmer with professional IT experience, but I couldn't get these pieces of crap to work. Two modems in a row were duds because of Netgear's poor quality control. Imagine charging half a grand for a product that you don't know how to make. Trash. It's garbage. It's not better than a paperweight.

👤The product worked well for a couple of weeks, then it stopped connecting to the internet. We decided to connect another modem to see if it worked after we had a cable tech come out and replace the wiring. It did. I spent the last 45 minutes explaining to the guy that he is not authorized to replace the product and will have to transfer me to tech support to do so. I will not buy another product from Netgear.

👤I bought this device because of its features. After waiting 16 days, I received the v2 device. The Hardware Replacement Warranty from Netgear gives you 2 years of replacement. It took me 3 hours to get the address of the C7800 provision associated to my account. On the third day, on 2.4 GHz. No device can associate with the failed SSID. The same problem came up again, I contacted the NetGear tech support, they made me change the channel from 6 to 1 and turn on the beam. Reload is applied changes. The changes have disappeared after 2 weeks of work. The only way to get in touch with Tech Support is via email. 3 weeks of back and forth with boat load of reboots, factory reset and moving the power cables from power strip to wall outlet all on Tech Support instructions. I received an email from Netgear today that said they would be able to give me a repair for a known bug and issue with the c7800 v2 routers. I will either ship a refurbished unit or a new unit if it's available first, based on my own expense, and post the fulfillment center receiving the faulty unit. This is the worst thing a networking manufacturer can do in the times of Pandemic. 3 weeks of wasted time for rotter TECH Support for a known issue and then don't bother shipping a replacement unit with a paid return label for cross ship of the faulty unit. I would have returned the product if the return window had not expired. Shame on you.

👤I wanted a modem-router combo with the latest technology. The Nighthawk CAX80 met all the requirements. The installation of the CAX80 wasn't easy. I could not use the Web to do so. The Nighthawk app can be used to setup a modem, but not a wireless one. Spectrum is my cable company. I have had my internet account with them for more than 20 years. Once you get a live person, their customer service is excellent. They said the modem was working. I couldn't connect to the internet. I called for assistance after I was given a direct number. My modem-router worked perfectly within minutes. They are competent. The modem-router has a less constant signal than the wi-fi one. There is no buffering or pauses when watching video movies. The advertising from Netgear is reliable. So is the performance. I am very pleased with this device and recommend it to others.

2. MOTOROLA MG7550 AC1900 Gigabit Maximum

MOTOROLA MG7550 AC1900 Gigabit Maximum

Brand: Motorola

👤The modem is certified by our internet provider, and we purchased it because of it's high ratings. The cable modem was easy to set up and use. The internet signal has been malfunctioning. After talking to the internet technicians, it appears the modem is not compatible with the company. We are stuck with a modem that can't be used because it has been over 60 days. I submitted this review to help other buyers.

👤I use the internet as a power user. When I use it, I expect it to be there. The units of the internet service provider were flaky. After changing their unit four times, they finally said that there needs to be a better solution to intermittent equipment. Can't say enough nice things about the unit that I bought. It works better than the units of the internet service provider. Nice. It pays itself in one year. Thanks for making a quality product.

👤There is a huge hole in the security of this modem, because the ISP can change the default admin password, thus denying you access to its configuration settings. The customer support of the company was aware of the issue and knew exactly what my internet service provider had done. It makes sense that they need to give the ISP access to the firmware during the provisioning stage. When the modem is hard/factory reset, the admin password should be stored in read-only memory, which should be accessed by holding down the reset button for 10 seconds. A factory reset only resets the password to the modified value. My internet service provider deserves ire for their actions, but they should also be criticized for allowing them to hijack their customers' personal property. I would not have been able to set my modem's security settings if my modem customer support hadn't known what my ISP had changed to. It would have left me open to attacks if I wasn't able to change my passwords. Should my internet service provider feel like it, they can re-provision my modem at any time, change my admin password to something else, and brick my modem - at least as far as protecting my security goes. When employees who have physical access to the modem should not be allowed to arbitrarily reset the password, I am aware that there may be instances when entities want to change what the default factory-reset admin password is. It's not something that most end- users of this product would be affected by, and it's an option to consider in a high-end commercial model. Changing the default factory reset admin password should require physical access to the modem if that is required. It should not be possible to remotely change the password from outside the device's local intranet.

👤The unit that was replaced with the Xfinity one works great. The signal is better at all points in the house because of the speed improvements. It's simple to setup. It was about 15 minutes to get up and run. After 17 months, I can start saving money on my capital investment. Change all the default passwords for theLAN and admin of theRouter if you log into it. Do not call them. You can register online. Go to the internet and open up your browser, and you will see a registration screen. Have your account number ready.

Brand: Netgear

👤I'll note first that I'm reviewing the Netgear AC1900 WiFi Cable Modem with two lines of telephone support, as it appears Amazon is grouping reviews of similar products. I paid for it on Amazon. This is not one of the "AC1900" models that are out there. I was paying $10 per month for the cable modem that I bought this to replace. It looks like it will take 28 months before I see a return on my investment. I assume my modem will work for the next two years. It was easy to set up, and once I had my own password and SSID, I called the cable company. The nice lady who spoke English well and was a subscriber to Xfinity was able to get internet and voice telephone working easily, even though she had to send multiple signals to the modem, but it eventually responded and has been working fine ever since. I was surprised that I now have two internet connections in my house, one 2.4 GHz and the other 5.0 GHz. The old 2.4 GHz signal is required by some of my devices, including my printer, Oppo BluRay, and even an older version of the Nexus 7. I have no complaints about using my new cable modem. Installation is easy and the bill is lower. I'm happy.

👤This is a review of a cable modem. I use to measure the internet speed of my service from Comcast Blast. I still found that browsing the web was very interesting, with each new page typically taking less than a second to fully paint, who has time for that?! When I ordered this modem, I assumed that it would improve the performance of my web experience on WIRED connections, but I didn't think so. I was wrong. The difference was immediately apparent when I had this modem up and running. Web pages pop up like TV ads. This will change my life, and I already find myself going deeper into websites because I am not afraid of the slow painting with each new click. The difference in browsing performance seems to be much quicker than the previous 150, even though is now showing 280+ downloads. I have a modem in one corner of the house, and the signals seem to be faster than I thought. The installation was easy. I just went to and didn't call the station. I was up and running with internet and phone service after just 2 clicks. The administration utility for the routers is easy to use, and seems to have all the capabilities that a technical user might need. I feel like I have jumped 5 years into the future with the new speed of this box. It is worth $300 to me since I will get back my rental fees after 30 months. I discovered that the 'Stream TV' service wouldn't work because their system thought I was not on my home network, so wouldn't show some of the TV Channels. I wasted an hour of my life telling them that they needed to register the MAC addresses. It worked after they did that. The web might not suck anymore, but it still does.

Brand: Netgear

👤I've always had great luck with netgear products. I thought I could get rid of the router from comcast since it was under 50 bucks. The brass connection that the antennas use was loose, like really loose. I had to tighten them down with a pair of pliers to keep them from tipping over. Installation and setup for a netgear routers was easy, as you'd expect. This and the smooth ordering process with Amazon are the only reasons I didn't give this thing a star. The first picture shows that the device is listed on xfinity's site as an approved device for their 200 Mbps plans. Things went downhill once it was setup. The signal strength was terrible. We were able to use ethernet to see if we could get better speed. The TV, laptop, and Xbox Series X all had terrible speeds. We called netgear support because we were paying for a 200Mbps plan and the internet was fine with our existing modem. They were useless, and after a few calls to different techs we were told that we needed to upgrade the firmware. I've done it many times on other devices. I log into the device in a browser at while I'm on the phone with support and can't find the option to upgrade the firmware anywhere. I was told by the tech that I needed to connect from a phone to the device and use the netgear genie app for the IOS platform. The problem is that the app on my phone can't connect to my router because it's out of date, so I have to go through the hassle of finding our password and download the app on the phone. The tech told me that I needed to contact my internet service provider and that they would push the update to the routers. The netgear C6 220 was the one that came with the 1.02.01 version. In the second picture, you can see that the comcast version is I called comcast just for the sake of it, knowing full well what they'd tell me, and they told me to pound sand, and that they weren't going to push out a firmware update to a customer owned device. In case you're thinking of trying it. I thought I'd try to use the netgear genie app for windows on my laptop. It was able to connect to the router and see the v.1.02.01. When I hit the update button, I was told that I already had the most current version. There was no luck there. In conclusion... I think that's correct. The device ships with a newer version of the software. You can't update it from netgear's own app because it won't connect to the device because it's outdated. The only way to upgrade the firmware is to connect to the router with a browser. It will not be pushed out that would hopefully get the thing working correctly. What do you do? If you return it, you should seriously consider buying a netgear router from Arris or Motorola, and pay the extra couple of bucks. Even if you get one of these with newer firmware, you might not be able to use it for a long time because comcast updates their list of deployed firmware. If you've already bought it and are having issues with it, you should not return it. We wasted hours trying to get it to work.

5. ARRIS SURFboard Approved SB8200 Frustration

ARRIS SURFboard Approved SB8200 Frustration

The attractive, compact design makes it easy to store products in a home or office. Your investment is protected by a 2-year warranty and rugged lightning and power surge circuits. DOCSIS 3 1 cable modem is the best for cable internet speeds up to 2 Gbps. The cable internet provider will require a second address to reach 2 Gbps. There are 32 downstream and 8 upstream DOCSIS 3 channels. There are two 1-Gigabit Ethernet ports. Not compatible with other internet providers. Does not support cable digital voice service.

Brand: Arris

👤I purchased the Arris SB8200 for the same price as the 400Mbps plan for two years because they have a deal for two years. I decided to buy my own modem in order to save money. My previous plan had 400Mbps down and 35Mbps up, but my new plan has 259Mbps down and 35Mbps up, which is great for a 8x4 channel cable modem. Since Arris bought the modem cable division, I decided to get another one with the same product as the 6141. The most future proof modem on the market at the time of writing is the Arris SB8200, it is the only modem with two Ethernet ports that can do 2Gbps down. You can get a refurbished model for half the price. The chip inside the Arris is a much needed change from the Intel Puma 6 chip which had hardware bugs and caused them a lawsuit for good measure. The downstream channels of the SB8200 can be up to 32 scqam or 2 OFDM and the upstream channels can be up to 8 scqam or 2 OFDM. The max speed of the ports is only 1000Mbps and it will never be possible to get the boxes with that speed. This modem will serve you for many years even if you don't have a Gigabit internet speed plan. The other modems in the Docsis 3.1 family have less than 512MB of RAM. There is RAM! You can add a separate address for the second port for a small fee with most providers and Xfinity included. If you wanted to connect a gaming console directly to the modem for the best speeds, this would be a great option. You will be able to kick in 2Gbps by merging those two ports. The setup of the device was very easy and you just add the coxial cable, power cable and the routers to your device. You are off and running. A quick call to your internet provider to add the HFC MAC address and the modem is registered and provisioned and I'm up and running within ten minutes. If you know what you're doing, you can get them to ignore the tech. The reason for sending out a tech on all Gigabit plan installs is that the internet can be very unreliable. If you want to connect more than one device, you will need a modem, not a routers. The performance of the Arris is very good. I was able to pull my modem speeds from my service. I was able to test the actual speed at 1.4Gbps down and 45Mbps up, as well as the speed which is also included. On, my tests are usually down and up. My upload speed is faster than most people's download speeds. The modem lights will have a blue light for downstream and a green light for upstream, which is not an error or bug, but is only used for the downstream channels. Slow speeds, resets, and other issues arose with my service from Xfinity. A tech was sent out by the company. A rech came and found a lot of water coming from my tap. I was up and running again after he trapped them off. The resets began almost every 10 minutes at night. It was happening every night from 10pm to 7am. I had more people working for me. The issue was resolved after a month as the bad line amplifier was causing noise and my upstream was spiking into the high 50s, which triggered resets on the modem and t3/t4 errors. My neighbors were having issues on certain channels and the internet but their modems were not reset. My modem was fine for over 12 hours a day with no errors in the log until the night began to fall. My neighbors never lost internet. At night time, my internet was almost useless. The threshold for errors and resets is higher for the modems and gateways owned by the company. I had the latest version of the Arris update about severe sensitivity to t3/t4 errors. They need to work on this because I still have issues. If you're having issues with your Arris modem, you can access basic signal information, modem error logs, modem and firmware info by going to You can use this information to post in the support forums and get help. I'm saving a ton of money because the line and back end errors are corrected and the modem charge is going to be less than 15 dollars by the beginning of 2020 so I'm going to pay less than that. I'm paying $69.99 for a package that has a speed of 950Mbps down and 48Mbps up, which is a great deal, and you won't find speeds like that anywhere else. The Arris brand is keeping the spirit alive and kicking which is great for competition. If you want the best modem for your money right now, the Arris SB8200 is it, and if you can find a refurbished unit on Amazon, it's even better.

Brand: Motorola

👤I moved into a new home and there is only one game in town. I used to rent the modem/router monthly. I told myself that the next company wouldn't get me on that. I know that this will pay for itself down the line, even though it is an expensive out of pocket cost now. I read and researched between the different models and decided on this one. Installation was flawless. I was already connected to the internet when the tech was about to set up the TV. There is a strong signal in the house. There have been no problems thus far. The modem has been solid for the last 4 months. The signal is strong.

👤I bought a modem/router to replace my old one which cost me $11/mo to rent. Why didn't I do this earlier? The new router will pay for itself in 15 months, but the upgrade to the performace was so dramatic I could not believe it. The rented modem was less than a year old. The signal was unreliable on the 3rd floor of my house. It was very annoying that my nest cam would go off-line several times a day. I was blaming the other person. The download speeds were not impressive. Since I switched over to the new routers about 3 weeks ago, I'm getting strong signal on the 3rd floor and my nest cam hasn't gone off-line. The download speeds are much faster than with the internet service provider. This is a very good routers, bottom line. I could not be happier.

👤The device works. The self-installation process with Xfinity did not work out. I have an existing account with a modem. I had to register the modem by phone. The tech had to shut down the modem. The new modem was activated. The process took about 30 minutes. All is well after that.

👤I had trouble getting a strong signal in some corners of my house with my first routers, which was much cheaper. I replaced it with a satellite unit and it solved my issues with the internet. I needed to replace my modem about a year after I bought the device that could replace it. The beam forming and power boost features of the MG7700 sounded like they might be enough to overcome my home. Without an extra satellite unit, there is no need for a mesh routers. I was wrong. Even though this is a much more expensive and fancy router, it still has the same problems as my older cheaper one, which is a strong internet signal throughout my home. I am going to buy a new cable modem and return the old one. Apparently 5ghz signals have more trouble going through walls than 2.4ghz... When I connected my phone to the 5ghz network, it lost the connection in a far corner of my house, but it still showed the 2.4ghz network. The product was easy to set up, I just plugged it in, and I was prompted to sign into my account, which took less than 30 minutes. Since this is a dual band, you can have one network for both 5 and 2.4 GHz. It's nice because it gives you more control over which device you want to have on which network, but keep in mind that 2.4 GHz is more susceptible to interference than 5 GHz, and it has less trouble going through walls. You can set the SSIDs to be the same and leave it up to your devices to choose, which is what I did, and the Orbi uses the same SSID for both. The status and configuration pages are usable, but I have seen worse products. One thing I don't like about most other routers is that they only show the wireless devices, and you can't see the other devices. There are many advanced settings that I didn't play with, but almost all of them have an info popup with explanations. It's a decent looking device with a simple design. I rented a combo modem+router that looked like an alien spaceship, but it is not as big or ugly as this one. The shelf space is saved by having it stand vertically. The modem and router are combined into a single device, but I discovered that the firmware is not user-updatable. This is normal for cable modems, but not every other router allows me to update the firmware. Updating the functions of the device was not allowed. The manual says that when there are updates, they will be sent to your internet service provider for approval and deployment.

7. ARRIS Surfboard SVG2482AC Telephone Certified

ARRIS Surfboard SVG2482AC Telephone Certified

Not compatible with any other internet service provider. DOCSIS 3.0 modem channels are available for Xfinity internet speed plans up to 500 Mbps. The AC1750 has a dual band wireless internet connection and 4 ports for voice and data services.

Brand: Arris

👤I bought this to replace my communist-cast modem. The modem didn't work when it was configured, and they gave a excuse that it wouldn't work for their service. I had another tech set this up after I hung up and called again, because I was dealing with an inexperienced tech. The modem will apply a bunch of updates before you can get internet access for the first time. They will ask you "are all your lights on" as soon as they set up the modem, but you need to wait. When it's getting setup, keep that in mind. Don't let the company trick you. They use the same modem. The white one has better spec than the black one. I have a two story house and a basement. I can easily get internet access throughout the house because the modem is upstairs in my office. I lose a bar in the basement because it's a finished basement with sound proof insulation. I may get an access point setup in the basement in the future. If you're a streamer, a game player, or just an everyday user, this is the router for you. There have been no issues for over a year.

👤This modem is compatible with Vocie. It works well. It is not compatible with the Gig Speed Tier. You wouldn't know that it requires a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, even though it advertises speeds up to 1Gig. This is 3.0. If I could get my money back, I would. Don't buy this unless you want speeds under 250Mb.

👤I have been using the Arris routers for 5 months and it has worked out very well. I have a triple play bundle with Comcast in Denver. I have a 250 mps plan on the internet. I paid the $13/mo rental fee for the modem. The speeds were not very fast. The new configuration is showing amazing speeds. The 5 ghz connection will allow you to get up to 299 mps, but the speed will go down on weekdays. I was initially worried that changing to a purchased modem would cause me to call the company, and I expected to be pushed back to not change. I didn't have to speak with them. I connected my phone line to the modem. After a few minutes of setting up and blinking lights, my laptop browser automatically connected to a Xfinity address and the messages said the conversion would be done automatically. I had to call a special phone number after I got a message that there was a problem with the system. After answering a few questions, the system said that it would take a while to reset the modem and that it would send a strong signal. I gave the option to provide my cell #, but the phone company would call back 10 minutes after the reset was completed. The Arris modem and router were on-line after the reset. Applause! I got the automated call 10 minutes later and said everything was working. There is a Some reviewers said that the speed of the internet was slower than rated. The Arris modem/router was slow for me. Not much more than 85 mps. TP-Link AC1750 was purchased from Amazon. I entered the Arris modem/router settings in my browser and changed the setting to enable Bridge mode. I connected the Arris modem/router to the internet with a cable from the other side. The Bridge Mode will forwards the internet signal from the Arris modem to the TP-Link one. The Arris modem still works. I changed the password on the TP-Link routers. I have been using a 5 ghz connection and getting really fast speeds. I keep the modems in the basement and on the second floor of our house. There are no issues with streaming TV on the second floor. The savings from not paying the modem rental fees will pay for the two modems that I get, plus I get terrific internet speeds.

Brand: Arris

👤I have good experience on this subject and I am a Systems Engineer. I can tell from my tests and perspective that this is not a reliable product. I had a good experience with the Support, good people that look to care about your problem will answer you in a reazonable way. They pointed me to the signals out of range after looking at the modem QAM table on the GUI interface after few interactions, tests, and changing my modem twice for the same model. I was asked to contact the company to solve the problem. I contacted the company and they opened a ticket for me to change all of the cables and signals for my installation, after some adjustments to their equipment all the signals were with the specifications I requested. After a week, boom... The modem is frozen again, and it starts to lose packages on the network at a rate of 80% to 90%. My home has a cabled network that is connected to a pair of Gateways that are connected to two different internet providers. I have tried a number of different modems from different companies on this setup, and all of them showed the same behavior. The internet speed degrades until it is practically useless after a few days when network packages are lost. I have to restart the modem twice a day until it 800-273-3217 I need to restart it again. I'm thinking about a solution, but the modem/router doesn't have a feature to schedule an auto restart, and there are times when you have to restart it twice to get a good connection. It's useless to try to use a smart outlet to recycle power on a scheduled time. It will be useless if it didn't connect after the first recycle. I never used the embedded WIFI from this modem/router because I just need cabled internet to my firewall. There is nothing to add about the quality of the internet. Summary of a problem. It's not a good thing It's not a good thing It's not a good thing It's not a good thing It's not a good thing It's not a good thing It's not a good thing It's not a good thing After a few days, the modem starts to lose network packages. You can't access the GUI when the modem doesn't respond to requests. I didn't try to break into the modem to investigate the software issue. It works fine after a hard restart, but it might be related to a persistent cache of something that only gets flushed after the second restart. Conclusion It's not a good thing It's not a good thing It's not a good thing It's not a good thing It's not a good thing After using the modem/router for a while and trying different modems, I have stopped using it. I believe that the series of Gigabit modem have an Important reliability issue on the software that doesn't implement adequate quality assurance mechanism for the connection and are incapable of self recovering from a degraded connection situation making it a bad option for most users. If you don't want to restart the modem every time your internet is slow, then I don't recommend it. The other modem had the same behavior. I tried not to be too technical on my review, but this is my first extended review that I feel compelled to write. Leave a comment if you need any more information. I don't think I can share my email here. I was told over the phone that only the internet service provider would be able to update it. That is not the kind of answer you want to hear from a product with that price range. This review is not related to the opinion of any company or customer I've worked with until now.

Brand: Amazon Renewed

👤I wouldn't buy refurbished items. You have a chance to get 2 bad modems just like I did. The first one worked for 2 weeks and the second for 5 weeks. The reason why this was frustrating was because the second modem was out of the warranty time frame and was already registered to someone else. The technical support guy at Amazon was aware of the issues. My question is: why is Amazon selling modems that are false about being renewed?

👤The nighthawk cable modem worked well. It was easy to set up. The modem has a password that you need to use to access it. Some of the reviews may have been due to not being able to set it up correctly. I've had it for a month. Works well. The internet speed is the same, but the modem is better. The difference is obvious. The day and night are different. Didn't get paid to write about it.

👤If you are looking for the best modem/router in the market today, look no further, the Netgear Nighthawk is the answer. It's easy to install. The equipment is fast.

👤This is a product that has been used before. The unit was not reset back to factory settings and the admin password was not set to default. This locked me out of the router and made it impossible for me to control it. They told me to return the unit and order another one. If the next one has the same issue, I will abandon the'renewed' option and go for the new. The product was completely different when I received the 2nd one. The first one was just a box with a power cable and the second one was almost new. Each component was individually wrapped. The product works perfectly. It seems like a flip of the coin as to what you will get with renewed based on my experience, but the return policy on Amazon makes it easy to return if you get a lemon.

👤The first one wouldn't let me log on, it wouldn't project a signal for me to log onto, and when we contacted customer service, they got us a replacement and that one had the same problem. Don't buy a refurbished modem. Its not worth it.

👤While using multiple devices, the internet does not lag. The current provider has 400mbps.

👤Modem works well most of the time. I lost the wireless signal while working on the computer. I looked at my phone. The internet may not be available next to the icon. The music was played through all the problems. The modem works great out of the box. I live in a small condo and get great signals in each room. I am testing signal on my Fire TV devices and I am getting close to 170-190 Mbps. I would buy this again, instead of renting the modem. I haven't contacted customer support for this modem. You can't take it off once you click on it.

👤The new modem. When you can find a refurbished cheaper device, you shouldn't buy a new one.

10. MOTOROLA MB7621 Approved Spectrum Downloads

MOTOROLA MB7621 Approved Spectrum Downloads

It is easy to clean with a premium cover protectors on this meditation and gaming floor chair. You can use a damp sponge on the affected area. The seat will be the same as new. The model MB7621 is recommended for cable internet service speeds of 650 Mbps. This modem is the best for most people, according to Wirecutter. A full-band capture digital tuner makes the internet more reliable. The cable modem's 1 Gigabit Ethernet port can be used to connect to a computer, computer game, or streaming video device. It's great for use with Whole Home networks. The cable modem doesn't have a built-in telephone call capability. There is a built-in wireless router in the MG7700. Requires cable internet service. It was approved by and for use with other cable service providers. The cable modem rental fees should be eliminated. The savings are shown for the cable service provider. The attractive, compact design makes it easy to store products in a home or office. Your investment is protected by a 2-year warranty and rugged lightning and power surge circuits.

Brand: Motorola

👤The Quick Start guide was included in the box and made setting up the modem easy. It's not a good idea to use the option to text an activation code when you're not using it, it's only good for 15 minutes, but I didn't receive the text until 30 minutes had passed, so just stick with your account name. My modem lease is up and I'm not getting a 3.1 modem upgrade, but I was pestered by the company to upgrade my modem because it was working fine with the new DOCSIS 3.1. I narrowed my choices to the three modems that were compatible with my region on the approved device page of the company. The three are all comparable at 1001 Mbps, 32 down x 8 up DOCSIS channels, and DOCSIS 3.1. The Arris has great hardware specifications and is very popular with the cool kids, especially after they went with the Broadcom's offering. It's got 3GB of RAM, 128MB of flash memory, and 16 bits of flash memory. I would have purchased it if it wasn't a box that clashed with my apartment. I know, Vanity, your name be Monkey Rat. I've never had a lot of love for Netgear, and I found its hardware lacking -- 128 MB of flash memory and 512 MB of RAM. One would expect something a tad more from a name like Netgear, with the current theoretical home speeds at 1Gb. It's feature rich, which is saying something for a cable modem. I didn't see a reason to go down this path. At this point, the clashing white Arris was looking better. I found a happy place after comparing the MB8600 to both. 512 MB of RAM and 128 MB of NAN is cheaper than the Arris with a doubling of the RAM, but I paid more for future ability to bond upwards of 4 than the Netgear with a doubling of the RAM. This device is positioned nicely for a future with a potential of 4Gb, because it requires a higher end router and is faster than a gig speed. It's a big device. If you're familiar with the older Surfboards, this is double the size in height and doesn't come with a mounting option. It has a grid pattern on the side that gives it great air flow. How does it work? My internet plan is awesome. I've never seen wired speeds increase in the dead of night, but it's not all that noticeable, even if you plug in directly to the cable modem. I can't argue with the results, as they were significantly improved for my nVidia SHIELD K1 tablet and the Google Pixel 2 phone. I need to check out the baked in spectrum analyzer utility on the MB8600, but I keep forgetting. I like it, but I don't think it's earth shaking or setting the sky afire. I don't have a problem with watching movies on the occasional basis, and can only praise the device for its eye-catching wi-fi boost, which I have no explanation for. I might change out my Cat5e for Cat6 and upgrade my router to get more Mbps out. I think it's time to call xfinity and do some line tests. I will give you updates on that as well.

👤Wow! What a change! Tech came to the house and could not find any problems with the line, but he told me my 7 month old routers was garbage, and I looked up a dual band routers, which was Amazons Choice. Same day delivery! I went through setup with my internet service provider and within 10 minutes I went from 15-20 Mbps to 200mbps with no issues for the last 72 hours. I was impressed with the range and availability of this mix. I was looking for a cheaper option, but I found this unit that has a 5G wireless option, and it's even better on the other side of the house. I was so impressed by the first review I have ever written, that I decided to log on to Amazon and write it in the middle of streaming. Same day delivery for a super buy? I am a fan.

👤This is the modem for you. You can launch your browser by hooking up to it with an Ethernet cable. A screen will show up in a minute, and you are done in a few minutes. I changed my password and sign on to my previous one and all my devices were ready to go. Rental fees are no longer charged.

👤I try to avoid modem/wireless combo. I made an exception because of the reviews and ease of only having one device and after 2 and a half months, the wireless signal on the router has degraded to the point where I'll be returning the device. The signal degraded 20 days outside of the return period so I picked up the protection plan. When I purchased the modem/router, I was getting between 140 and 150 mbps on 5 GHz and 40-50 mbps on 2.4 GHz on a 200mbps connection. It was expected that apartments have a lot of congestion. The issue isn't on the internet service provider but the computer that I have hard-wired to it. I purchased a protection plan for the device, but tonight has pushed me to the point where I'm going to use it. I'm getting 70-90 mbps on 5 GHz and 20mbps on 2.4 GHz at 5 feet away. At 30 feet away, my signal is around 30 mbps on 5 GHz and 900 kBps on 2.4 GHz. There is an update on 9-21. When I got a new router, the download speeds were better than they were when I wrote the review. If frequent resets are required to maintain adequate speed, will update.

👤The coverage for my 2,500 square foot house is great, it works perfectly without being located near the center of the house, and several items using the internet, without any issues: two computers, one laptop, 2 cellphones, one tablet, two firesticks, an Apple device. I'm very happy with the equipment, no more dead spots inside the house, and good coverage outside, with two concrete blocks wall between my phone and the modem.

👤Wow. I got this because people said it boosted their speeds a bit. The picture was plugged in and up and running in no time. I think I ran at 200. Let's see how it handles streaming devices. It is worth it in my opinion... I was charged $10 a month for their rental, but it will pay for itself in a year.
