👤The modem is certified by our internet provider, and we purchased it because of it's high ratings. The cable modem was easy to set up and use. The internet signal has been malfunctioning. After talking to the internet technicians, it appears the modem is not compatible with the company. We are stuck with a modem that can't be used because it has been over 60 days. I submitted this review to help other buyers.

👤I use the internet as a power user. When I use it, I expect it to be there. The units of the internet service provider were flaky. After changing their unit four times, they finally said that there needs to be a better solution to intermittent equipment. Can't say enough nice things about the unit that I bought. It works better than the units of the internet service provider. Nice. It pays itself in one year. Thanks for making a quality product.

👤There is a huge hole in the security of this modem, because the ISP can change the default admin password, thus denying you access to its configuration settings. The customer support of the company was aware of the issue and knew exactly what my internet service provider had done. It makes sense that they need to give the ISP access to the firmware during the provisioning stage. When the modem is hard/factory reset, the admin password should be stored in read-only memory, which should be accessed by holding down the reset button for 10 seconds. A factory reset only resets the password to the modified value. My internet service provider deserves ire for their actions, but they should also be criticized for allowing them to hijack their customers' personal property. I would not have been able to set my modem's security settings if my modem customer support hadn't known what my ISP had changed to. It would have left me open to attacks if I wasn't able to change my passwords. Should my internet service provider feel like it, they can re-provision my modem at any time, change my admin password to something else, and brick my modem - at least as far as protecting my security goes. When employees who have physical access to the modem should not be allowed to arbitrarily reset the password, I am aware that there may be instances when entities want to change what the default factory-reset admin password is. It's not something that most end- users of this product would be affected by, and it's an option to consider in a high-end commercial model. Changing the default factory reset admin password should require physical access to the modem if that is required. It should not be possible to remotely change the password from outside the device's local intranet.

👤The unit that was replaced with the Xfinity one works great. The signal is better at all points in the house because of the speed improvements. It's simple to setup. It was about 15 minutes to get up and run. After 17 months, I can start saving money on my capital investment. Change all the default passwords for theLAN and admin of theRouter if you log into it. Do not call them. You can register online. Go to the internet and open up your browser, and you will see a registration screen. Have your account number ready.

2. ARRIS SURFboard Cablevision SB6190 White

👤The signal to noise ratio on these reviews is unbelievable. If you are one of the lucky people who read my review, please consider it in the proper context, because I have no hope that my review will affect the overall score of this device. I don't want anyone to know about my network engineer work. I will try to explain that many cable modems are built with the same or similar components which are developed by chip manufacturers. This modem is built using a chip family made by Intel with the brand name "Puma" which is a low cost chip which integrates a lot of the hardware necessary to build a cable modem onto a single chip. Different models by the same manufacturer may use different vendors' chips. The hardware cost is reduced and consumers can enjoy a better product with more consistent and reliable performance. Sometimes this is not the case. It is not clear if the problems of the Intel Puma chips can be solved. A security issue on the internet allows anyone to block your cable modem from sending or receiving traffic. The cable modem can have problems sending or receiving data in a timely manner in certain circumstances. Both of these problems can lead to a complete loss of service or both. The fundamental faults of the home Internet service are often overlooked because people have come to expect it to be slow and unreliable. Some types of testing which do not cause problems reveal a modem which appears to perform admirably in most circumstances, and so many are left with an overall favorable impression. I have no doubt that the people leaving good reviews about this modem are sincere, but I also have no doubt that they have experienced problems with their cable modem as a result. It is difficult to answer the question of which alternate product one should purchase because it is dependent on your cable provider. It is possible that a 24x8 modem such as the Netgear CM600 is the best choice, but it is also possible that a SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 modem is the best choice. There is one thing that is certain, and that is that the SB6190 is to be avoided.

👤It is using a faulty chip that will go bad sooner or later. The hardware issue is why none have worked. I don't think many will see this post, but I felt like I had to warn others. I can't post a link, but I can search for more information about the Arris lawsuit.

👤The Intel and Arris have acknowledged a latency flaw with the Intel Puma 6 Chipset used by this modem. I purchased another Arris modem to replace the flawed one, so I have no animosity towards Arris, they produce fantastic products, and their handling of the issue has been less than stellar. I purchased the top rated DOCSIS 3.0 modem, the SB6190, in 2016 because I wanted to use it. We started to notice network dropouts and unexplained delays. Our video streaming service suffered as did my kids internet gaming. I was taken down the path of new cables and other fixes by my problem. The class action lawsuit was filed against Arris because they hid the fact that the Intel Puma 6 was known to have latency flaws. The rationale behind the lawsuit is that the units are impacted by the flaw and neither Intel nor Arris has been able to fix it. The report can be found on the internet. Arris will not acknowledge the issue if you call. The only way to take action is to join the class action lawsuit. If you have trouble with DOCSIS 3.1, you can upgrade to the Arris SB8200 that uses a verified and proven Broadcom BCM3390 chipset.

3. NETGEAR Nighthawk Multi Gig Cable CM2000

NETGEAR Nighthawk Multi Gig Cable CM2000

The SBG10-RB part number is 1000886-RB. It's built for faster multi-GIG speeds. The best plan for cable providers is up to 2.5Gbps. It is comparable with all major cable internet providers. Not compatible with any of the above providers. If you want to support all your wireless devices, you need to connect your wireless device to the modem's Ethernet port. The Orbi Mesh system is a good choice for the fastest internet. Multi-Gig ETHERNET: 1 x 2.5Gbps Ethernet port for the fastest, true multi-Gig Internet connections. Monthly rental fees can be saved. You can save up to dollar 168/yr in equipment rental fees if you replace your cable modem. There is a technology called mole technology. DOCSIS 3.1 32x8 channel bonding and OFDM A 2x2 were used.

Brand: Netgear

👤The modem behaved exactly as it was advertised, but only for two months. I blamed my internet going completely out on 3 days ago, after I noticed spotty internet last week. I couldn't get internet because my modem lights were on. The technician from the company came over for an hour and I replaced my modem because the modem wasn't responding correctly. You were officially dead on Aug. 14. Outside of the return period, I'm stuck with a paperweight. The technician warned me that Netgear modems tend to fail earlier. You can get cheaper modems if you get this. You've lost a fan, thanks for disappointing me.

👤I have had this modem for a while and it has not been reliable. It was fine for the first three months. I would restart the modem and it would work for a while. It has been working for 15 minutes and then it goes down. I was renting a modem from my internet service provider, but I forgot to turn it on. I have not had a problem with it. I am not happy with this modem. This has been trouble for me, I am normally a Netgear fan. I have a lot of work that I have to do on my iPad and this is not acceptable.

👤The modem is easy to set up and supports the company we have. It took less than a minute. There are instructions for setting up the service if you have it. Very easy. The modem is working. Our internet speeds are what they should be. Purchase your modem and stop renting it. I have no idea what technical stuff is. I am enjoying better internet connection after I put it with a LINKSYSEA7300.

👤I don't do reviews often but I want to help my friends save days of research and frustration that I went through to finally get the most speed out of my internet. There are some golden nuggets here. I upgraded to the new gigabit here in Denver using their new Cable Modem/Router device. I was only getting 500 Mbps of download speed. It was lagging in our house when people were playing games and others were using the internet. Theagging was going up. I'm getting the most download throughput (941 Mbps) and the lowest ping I've ever seen since I upgraded to the CM1000. The house is rock solid. If you want to get the most speed, you should upgrade your ethernet cables to Cat 6 or Cat 5E and then Factory reset your router. You may need a new router. I'm getting the highest download throughput and lowest ping I've ever seen. I compared this cable modem to the XB6-A provided by Xfinity. I learned that you should make sure your ethernet cables going from the cable modem to the routers and from the PC to the computer are either CAT6 or at least CAT5E. There are two more The XB6-A that Xfinity provided was more expensive than the CM1000 cable modem. I got a 5MS ping to the server here in Denver. There is a hearing of un heard of. The new cable modem is used most of the time. I was getting 11-14 with the modem. A lower ping is important for a game. There are 3 more The modem/router combo doesn't work well if you have your own. You should only use their device if you have a router. If you can't get above that, don't worry, modern gigabit routers/switches can do it. There are five If you've enabled features like Traffic Meter, you're more likely to be able to handle gigabit download speeds. I enabled some of the features on my Nighthawk and it was only getting 400-500 mbps. The speed was still low even after I disabled these features. I did a factory reset and it fixed it, and now I'm getting a download speed of 962 - 962 mbps. When you enable extra features, the routers no longer use it's faster processor and it slows down. The newer routers can still maintain the max download speeds of 941 mbps, but they can also use features like QoS. The website Small Net Builder compares the routers to see which could reach the fastest download speed. If you need a new routers, I recommend you check that out. The CM 1000 is a cable modem. It's not a computer. If you only have one device, you're fine, but if you want to have more, you'll need a router. The XB6-A is a cable modem and a wireless router in one. I think it has some flaws that need to be fixed, but it appears to be a large piece of hardware. You can save money by getting the CM1000. P.S. I plan to upgrade my routers so that I can still get a good amount of download speed. If you enable this and run a speedtest, it will appear lower because it's now reserved for other devices in your home.

Brand: Arris

👤I bought this to replace my communist-cast modem. The modem didn't work when it was configured, and they gave a excuse that it wouldn't work for their service. I had another tech set this up after I hung up and called again, because I was dealing with an inexperienced tech. The modem will apply a bunch of updates before you can get internet access for the first time. They will ask you "are all your lights on" as soon as they set up the modem, but you need to wait. When it's getting setup, keep that in mind. Don't let the company trick you. They use the same modem. The white one has better spec than the black one. I have a two story house and a basement. I can easily get internet access throughout the house because the modem is upstairs in my office. I lose a bar in the basement because it's a finished basement with sound proof insulation. I may get an access point setup in the basement in the future. If you're a streamer, a game player, or just an everyday user, this is the router for you. There have been no issues for over a year.

👤This modem is compatible with Vocie. It works well. It is not compatible with the Gig Speed Tier. You wouldn't know that it requires a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, even though it advertises speeds up to 1Gig. This is 3.0. If I could get my money back, I would. Don't buy this unless you want speeds under 250Mb.

👤I have been using the Arris routers for 5 months and it has worked out very well. I have a triple play bundle with Comcast in Denver. I have a 250 mps plan on the internet. I paid the $13/mo rental fee for the modem. The speeds were not very fast. The new configuration is showing amazing speeds. The 5 ghz connection will allow you to get up to 299 mps, but the speed will go down on weekdays. I was initially worried that changing to a purchased modem would cause me to call the company, and I expected to be pushed back to not change. I didn't have to speak with them. I connected my phone line to the modem. After a few minutes of setting up and blinking lights, my laptop browser automatically connected to a Xfinity address and the messages said the conversion would be done automatically. I had to call a special phone number after I got a message that there was a problem with the system. After answering a few questions, the system said that it would take a while to reset the modem and that it would send a strong signal. I gave the option to provide my cell #, but the phone company would call back 10 minutes after the reset was completed. The Arris modem and router were on-line after the reset. Applause! I got the automated call 10 minutes later and said everything was working. There is a Some reviewers said that the speed of the internet was slower than rated. The Arris modem/router was slow for me. Not much more than 85 mps. TP-Link AC1750 was purchased from Amazon. I entered the Arris modem/router settings in my browser and changed the setting to enable Bridge mode. I connected the Arris modem/router to the internet with a cable from the other side. The Bridge Mode will forwards the internet signal from the Arris modem to the TP-Link one. The Arris modem still works. I changed the password on the TP-Link routers. I have been using a 5 ghz connection and getting really fast speeds. I keep the modems in the basement and on the second floor of our house. There are no issues with streaming TV on the second floor. The savings from not paying the modem rental fees will pay for the two modems that I get, plus I get terrific internet speeds.

Brand: Motorola

👤The Quick Start guide was included in the box and made setting up the modem easy. It's not a good idea to use the option to text an activation code when you're not using it, it's only good for 15 minutes, but I didn't receive the text until 30 minutes had passed, so just stick with your account name. My modem lease is up and I'm not getting a 3.1 modem upgrade, but I was pestered by the company to upgrade my modem because it was working fine with the new DOCSIS 3.1. I narrowed my choices to the three modems that were compatible with my region on the approved device page of the company. The three are all comparable at 1001 Mbps, 32 down x 8 up DOCSIS channels, and DOCSIS 3.1. The Arris has great hardware specifications and is very popular with the cool kids, especially after they went with the Broadcom's offering. It's got 3GB of RAM, 128MB of flash memory, and 16 bits of flash memory. I would have purchased it if it wasn't a box that clashed with my apartment. I know, Vanity, your name be Monkey Rat. I've never had a lot of love for Netgear, and I found its hardware lacking -- 128 MB of flash memory and 512 MB of RAM. One would expect something a tad more from a name like Netgear, with the current theoretical home speeds at 1Gb. It's feature rich, which is saying something for a cable modem. I didn't see a reason to go down this path. At this point, the clashing white Arris was looking better. I found a happy place after comparing the MB8600 to both. 512 MB of RAM and 128 MB of NAN is cheaper than the Arris with a doubling of the RAM, but I paid more for future ability to bond upwards of 4 than the Netgear with a doubling of the RAM. This device is positioned nicely for a future with a potential of 4Gb, because it requires a higher end router and is faster than a gig speed. It's a big device. If you're familiar with the older Surfboards, this is double the size in height and doesn't come with a mounting option. It has a grid pattern on the side that gives it great air flow. How does it work? My internet plan is awesome. I've never seen wired speeds increase in the dead of night, but it's not all that noticeable, even if you plug in directly to the cable modem. I can't argue with the results, as they were significantly improved for my nVidia SHIELD K1 tablet and the Google Pixel 2 phone. I need to check out the baked in spectrum analyzer utility on the MB8600, but I keep forgetting. I like it, but I don't think it's earth shaking or setting the sky afire. I don't have a problem with watching movies on the occasional basis, and can only praise the device for its eye-catching wi-fi boost, which I have no explanation for. I might change out my Cat5e for Cat6 and upgrade my router to get more Mbps out. I think it's time to call xfinity and do some line tests. I will give you updates on that as well.

6. ARRIS Surfboard S33 Multi Gigabit Ethernet

ARRIS Surfboard S33 Multi Gigabit Ethernet

CM 1000-1AZNAS is not compatible with some of the other companies. Not compatible with cable voice services. There is multi-networking. It is compatible with major U.S. cable internet providers. You can save on modem rental fees by stopping renting it.

Brand: Arris

👤The third update was to the Xfinity tier. Around 935 and 40 up. I don't have a 2.5Gbps. If you have 2.5Gbps network setup, you should be getting 1.2Gbps. I haven't had a modem issue since I got the product. I have been running for more than a week without a single drop. I don't expect to ever need to restart. Time will tell. It was bumped to 5 star. I'm still upset that there isn't an ethernet cable on the modern. I ran a bunch of ping tests for my 2 favorites and found that the median and third quartile are, and I plotted in a box plot. Not a big difference. The single blue light won me over in the look department and its tiny form factor. I decided to return all of the other 3 in order to get a modem upgrade. The original 4 Star review took out 1 star because of me being upset over not finding a network cable on such an expensive modem. Arris 8200, MB 8600, and 8611 were purchased by me. Here is my initial impression. I was really disappointed that there was no network cable in the box. There was a nice flat network cable in the Arris 8200. The old style rounded network cable was on the 8600 and 8611. This has nothing. 2. It looks better than Arris 8200. I decided to return the 8200 because it is so hideous. The motorola is likely to win the look. I would rather have a cute little modem. The modem is roughly the same size as 8200 and a tad shorter. 3. The other modems were activated without hassle via the xfinity app, but S33 forced me to call. There were few observations compared to the Arris 8200 and the MB 8611. There is no spectrum analyzer on S33, unlike Arris 8200. I cannot access the internet. The OFDMPLC is showing 1 dB less than 8611 on all channels for me, but I think it will get better as the modem locks in better. 3. The power shifted by full. The S33 is showing around 3 dBmV for all but OFDM PLC and it's showing -5 on MB 8611. The entire signal level shifted by -5 and OFDM shifted by -3. 4. On S33 and 8611, the power level seems to be the same. The modem was installed by me. I will have to observe Corrected and Uncorrectables before I report on them. I used to accumulate low single digit corrected and Uncorrectable, but it was very rare.

👤I don't know how this modem gets good reviews. Weak power is why. I replaced the modem with a new one. The Arris S33 has a better SNR than the MB8611. The other things listed below have a big effect on this. Speed. My provider has 1Gb service. The max speed I could achieve with the S33 was about 500mbps. I should be in the 900's with the MB8611. It was hot. It was hot as the fire raged. It drops a lot. Look at my pictures. The Power and SNR columns have different meanings. It was worse on the ARRIS. My environment has not changed. I have a straight shot to the cable box.

7. NETGEAR Gigabit XFINITY Compatible Gig Speed

NETGEAR Gigabit XFINITY Compatible Gig Speed

It's ideal for streaming 4K content, downloads and online gaming. Up to 1000 Mbps service is supported by all cable internet speed tiers. There is a separate router required for the internet. There is a document called Docsis 3. DOCSIS 3. 0 has a slower download speed. There is a document called Docsis 3. OFDM 2x2 is a show. DOCSIS 3. Monthly cable modem rental fees can be eliminated. DOCSIS 3 is on the agenda. It is compatible with DOCSIS 3. Please check your cable internet service provider website for data speed tier compatibility and to ensure it provides DOCSIS 3.1 service, otherwise this modem will only work as a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. CM 1000-1AZNAS is not compatible with some of the other companies. Not compatible with cable voice services.

Brand: Amazon Renewed

👤I upgraded my internet service to 1 gigabit internet and purchased this modem to use at the top end. I only received about 300Mbps down and 30Mbps up from the first bootup. When traffic on the shared internet connection was the lowest, I was able to get 477.97Mbps down and 41.77Mbps up. I was able to confirm that this is a known issue with the modem model, and that it affects all the CM1000 series modems. There is currently no documented solution. I tried changing the modem settings, but it didn't change the speeds being recorded.

👤Every 30 seconds or so, the ping latency is very high. The original modem I used was from Motorola. The signal is strong, but the lag spikes make it unusuable. I'm getting a new copy tomorrow. Let's see if this was faulty. I got a new copy of my eero and changed it. It works. No more lag. The spikes were used on 4 different routers. Same result.

👤I decided to purchase instead of paying a monthly rental fee. I'm paying for 330Mbps, but I only see about 100Mbps through the old Arris modem/router combo I've been renting. The refurbished model was activated by a simple phone call to the cable company. My speed was 330Mbps. It will have paid for itself in a few months.

👤The advertised speed brings me no issues. When I added the serial # and/or MAC to my account, I was unable to send a restart signal from the app or browser. So far, so good!

👤It works great once it's up and running. There are no codeword problems or power disruption. I don't have any issues with the modem's performance because I don't have the ability to manually update the firmware.

👤I finally have a product that works, is easy to install, and a great connection for all over my house, and it was worth every penny I spent.

👤An old Arris cable modem was replaced. I was a little worried about the refurbished unit but it works perfectly. It took a couple of startup cycles, but eventually it came up and is working well. It's not possible to determine likely life span because it was only installed for 24 hours.

8. MOTOROLA Certified Comcast Spectrum BrightHouse

MOTOROLA Certified Comcast Spectrum BrightHouse

There is a technology called mole technology. DOCSIS 3.1 32x8 channel bonding and OFDM A 2x2 were used. The DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem is sixteen times faster than DOCSIS 2.0. A Full-Band Capture digital tuner makes the internet more reliable. The cable modem's port can be used to connect to a computer, game station, or wireless device. The MB7420 cable modem does not have a phone jack or a wireless router. There is a built-in wireless router in the MG7550. Requires cable internet service. The modem ownership programs of leading cable service providers save rental charges of 120 dollar or more per year, and are certified by the XFINITY for residential speeds up to Extreme 300. A few quick steps are included in a Quick Start guide. If you need them, experienced USA-based customer support specialists are available.

Brand: Motorola

👤It took two months of unreliable internet to realize that the problem was the modem that didn't detect when the signal was lost, and couldn't be detected by the internet service provider when it was online. Every time there was an internet glitch, the only way to get back online was to physically power it off and then connect the modem to the isp, which would work great until another glitch happened. It never attempted to connect because it didn't detect. A modem reset had no effect on the isp attempt. I was getting tired because my modem is on another floor. The modem was disconnected from the cable while it was still powered on, which was the only way I discovered the issue. There was a set of indicator lights that indicated normal online connection. The return deadline had passed by the time we figured it out. This modem also sucks.

👤If you want speeds greater than 300 mbps, do not buy this hardware. The listing says it supports 600mbps, but it doesn't. The support team will confirm that the device cannot support 600 mbps speeds. They know they take advantage of people who are not reading the fine print. The support team said that they advertise what the product is capable of, regardless of who is connected to it and what service provider. We aren't the ones issuing the speed, I am not telling them to only allow this product to reach , it is their network telling us, and every manufacturer, how fast our products are allowed to go on their network. I'm not blaming the internet service provider, but I am letting you know who sets the rule for this allowance of speed.

👤The review is being written the day I got the modem, so don't rely on it for long term impressions. The modem works correctly after the setup process. I'm getting the same speeds that I paid for. When my provider upgrade their network, I'll need a 16 channel modem to stay on my current plan, and I purchased the modem because I needed one. I wanted to write this review so that anyone else who is considering this model will know what to look for. The heat is produced by the device. The modem was in use for 2 hours and I took a photo with a thermal camera. It is at the hottest point. Approx. The modem is warm to the touch, but not hot. The modem's power consumption was measured using a kill-a-watt device. The modem connected to the network and some devices that are connected via a routers have some connections open, but no active downloads or streaming occurring. The power consumption was 7.7 Watts. I like the modem, but I'm not sure if I'll keep it. The power consumption and heat output of my previous modem are different. It offers twice as many channels and twice the speed. The difference between the two devices likely means that the MB7420 is better. It seems like a very good option if you need the kind of speed this modem is capable of.

Brand: Motorola

👤I moved into a new home and there is only one game in town. I used to rent the modem/router monthly. I told myself that the next company wouldn't get me on that. I know that this will pay for itself down the line, even though it is an expensive out of pocket cost now. I read and researched between the different models and decided on this one. Installation was flawless. I was already connected to the internet when the tech was about to set up the TV. There is a strong signal in the house. There have been no problems thus far. The modem has been solid for the last 4 months. The signal is strong.

👤I bought a modem/router to replace my old one which cost me $11/mo to rent. Why didn't I do this earlier? The new router will pay for itself in 15 months, but the upgrade to the performace was so dramatic I could not believe it. The rented modem was less than a year old. The signal was unreliable on the 3rd floor of my house. It was very annoying that my nest cam would go off-line several times a day. I was blaming the other person. The download speeds were not impressive. Since I switched over to the new routers about 3 weeks ago, I'm getting strong signal on the 3rd floor and my nest cam hasn't gone off-line. The download speeds are much faster than with the internet service provider. This is a very good routers, bottom line. I could not be happier.

👤The device works. The self-installation process with Xfinity did not work out. I have an existing account with a modem. I had to register the modem by phone. The tech had to shut down the modem. The new modem was activated. The process took about 30 minutes. All is well after that.

👤I had trouble getting a strong signal in some corners of my house with my first routers, which was much cheaper. I replaced it with a satellite unit and it solved my issues with the internet. I needed to replace my modem about a year after I bought the device that could replace it. The beam forming and power boost features of the MG7700 sounded like they might be enough to overcome my home. Without an extra satellite unit, there is no need for a mesh routers. I was wrong. Even though this is a much more expensive and fancy router, it still has the same problems as my older cheaper one, which is a strong internet signal throughout my home. I am going to buy a new cable modem and return the old one. Apparently 5ghz signals have more trouble going through walls than 2.4ghz... When I connected my phone to the 5ghz network, it lost the connection in a far corner of my house, but it still showed the 2.4ghz network. The product was easy to set up, I just plugged it in, and I was prompted to sign into my account, which took less than 30 minutes. Since this is a dual band, you can have one network for both 5 and 2.4 GHz. It's nice because it gives you more control over which device you want to have on which network, but keep in mind that 2.4 GHz is more susceptible to interference than 5 GHz, and it has less trouble going through walls. You can set the SSIDs to be the same and leave it up to your devices to choose, which is what I did, and the Orbi uses the same SSID for both. The status and configuration pages are usable, but I have seen worse products. One thing I don't like about most other routers is that they only show the wireless devices, and you can't see the other devices. There are many advanced settings that I didn't play with, but almost all of them have an info popup with explanations. It's a decent looking device with a simple design. I rented a combo modem+router that looked like an alien spaceship, but it is not as big or ugly as this one. The shelf space is saved by having it stand vertically. The modem and router are combined into a single device, but I discovered that the firmware is not user-updatable. This is normal for cable modems, but not every other router allows me to update the firmware. Updating the functions of the device was not allowed. The manual says that when there are updates, they will be sent to your internet service provider for approval and deployment.

Brand: Netgear

👤I'll note first that I'm reviewing the Netgear AC1900 WiFi Cable Modem with two lines of telephone support, as it appears Amazon is grouping reviews of similar products. I paid for it on Amazon. This is not one of the "AC1900" models that are out there. I was paying $10 per month for the cable modem that I bought this to replace. It looks like it will take 28 months before I see a return on my investment. I assume my modem will work for the next two years. It was easy to set up, and once I had my own password and SSID, I called the cable company. The nice lady who spoke English well and was a subscriber to Xfinity was able to get internet and voice telephone working easily, even though she had to send multiple signals to the modem, but it eventually responded and has been working fine ever since. I was surprised that I now have two internet connections in my house, one 2.4 GHz and the other 5.0 GHz. The old 2.4 GHz signal is required by some of my devices, including my printer, Oppo BluRay, and even an older version of the Nexus 7. I have no complaints about using my new cable modem. Installation is easy and the bill is lower. I'm happy.

👤This is a review of a cable modem. I use speedtest.net to measure the internet speed of my service from Comcast Blast. I still found that browsing the web was very interesting, with each new page typically taking less than a second to fully paint, who has time for that?! When I ordered this modem, I assumed that it would improve the performance of my web experience on WIRED connections, but I didn't think so. I was wrong. The difference was immediately apparent when I had this modem up and running. Web pages pop up like TV ads. This will change my life, and I already find myself going deeper into websites because I am not afraid of the slow painting with each new click. The difference in browsing performance seems to be much quicker than the previous 150, even though Speedtest.net is now showing 280+ downloads. I have a modem in one corner of the house, and the signals seem to be faster than I thought. The installation was easy. I just went to xfinity.com and didn't call the station. I was up and running with internet and phone service after just 2 clicks. The administration utility for the routers is easy to use, and seems to have all the capabilities that a technical user might need. I feel like I have jumped 5 years into the future with the new speed of this box. It is worth $300 to me since I will get back my rental fees after 30 months. I discovered that the 'Stream TV' service wouldn't work because their system thought I was not on my home network, so wouldn't show some of the TV Channels. I wasted an hour of my life telling them that they needed to register the MAC addresses. It worked after they did that. The web might not suck anymore, but it still does.

Brand: Amazon Renewed

👤I wouldn't buy refurbished items. You have a chance to get 2 bad modems just like I did. The first one worked for 2 weeks and the second for 5 weeks. The reason why this was frustrating was because the second modem was out of the warranty time frame and was already registered to someone else. The technical support guy at Amazon was aware of the issues. My question is: why is Amazon selling modems that are false about being renewed?

👤The nighthawk cable modem worked well. It was easy to set up. The modem has a password that you need to use to access it. Some of the reviews may have been due to not being able to set it up correctly. I've had it for a month. Works well. The internet speed is the same, but the modem is better. The difference is obvious. The day and night are different. Didn't get paid to write about it.

👤If you are looking for the best modem/router in the market today, look no further, the Netgear Nighthawk is the answer. It's easy to install. The equipment is fast.

👤This is a product that has been used before. The unit was not reset back to factory settings and the admin password was not set to default. This locked me out of the router and made it impossible for me to control it. They told me to return the unit and order another one. If the next one has the same issue, I will abandon the'renewed' option and go for the new. The product was completely different when I received the 2nd one. The first one was just a box with a power cable and the second one was almost new. Each component was individually wrapped. The product works perfectly. It seems like a flip of the coin as to what you will get with renewed based on my experience, but the return policy on Amazon makes it easy to return if you get a lemon.

👤The first one wouldn't let me log on, it wouldn't project a signal for me to log onto, and when we contacted customer service, they got us a replacement and that one had the same problem. Don't buy a refurbished modem. Its not worth it.

👤While using multiple devices, the internet does not lag. The current provider has 400mbps.

👤Modem works well most of the time. I lost the wireless signal while working on the computer. I looked at my phone. The internet may not be available next to the icon. The music was played through all the problems. The modem works great out of the box. I live in a small condo and get great signals in each room. I am testing signal on my Fire TV devices and I am getting close to 170-190 Mbps. I would buy this again, instead of renting the modem. I haven't contacted customer support for this modem. You can't take it off once you click on it.

👤The new modem. When you can find a refurbished cheaper device, you shouldn't buy a new one.
