👤I decided to review it again nearly two years later because it got lost to me when I first reviewed it. I've heard my husband talk about it since I bought it. He said how much he still loves knife safety after he went over it with my daughter. This is the only thing I've heard of that still gets praise nearly two years later. I thought it was worth going back to my orders and looking for sharpness. I'm very pleased with it.

👤I'm surprised by how well this product works. I use a Japanese wet stone or belt grinder tosharpen my knives. Whenever I visit my mom and grandma's, I sharpen their knives with stone. I decided to buy this product because I wanted to teach my mom how to use a honing stick, but she couldn't seem to get the hang of it. It takes about 10 strokes on the course grind and 10 strokes on the fine grind to get a sharp enough edge to slice printer paper without tearing. It takes less than a minute to sharpen a knife for kitchen use. I can get a sharper knife by using a stone or belt grinder, but it's not good enough for a normal kitchen use. My mom and grandma can sharpen their knives whenever they want. This product is very good.

👤The headline says it all. The product may cause cancer or reproductive harm with no other information. The company didn't give me any helpful information when I called. Unless the exposure is low enough to pose no significant risk of cancer or is significantly below levels observed, a warning must be given if you have significant exposure to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The fact that there is a warning means that the exposure isn't low enough to pose a significant risk. I couldn't throw it out fast enough.

👤I am a mechanical engineer. The metal coarse sharpening side is actually made of an alloy that is used to 'braze' on the carbide insert that does the sharpening. This is stated in the description. Look up brazing on the internet. The bronze colour surrounds a rectangular block, which is the sharpening material. It is set in place because the surrounding bronze colour always fills out a circular arcs.

👤I am a professional chef, I just received a $60 dollar knife, and I wanted to try different sharpeners to see which was the best one. I use a diamond strike in my kitchen. This sharpener ruined the blades edge, ruining the rest of the testing on my 3 other sharpeners. The Damascus knife was hipped in 3 different locations, which caused a inconsistent bite, and the edge sharpener couldn't cut or skin paper or a tomato. I would file a claim for a refund on my knife or the sharpener, but why bother with a cheap and inconsistent product?

👤I bought this sharpener because it was cheap and had a lot of good reviews. The first few sharpenings were very good. My knives were sharper than they have ever been. I noticed that my knives never got that much sharper after using this product. The capability of the sharpeners went down as well because they wore out. It was great.

👤I was on the fence. I have a Lansky system, stones, and hones. I will still do it by hand when I need to. I have a large collection of tools. It is a chore to keep them sharp. The Work Sharp shines there. firewood is burned for 5 months a year. I split most by hand. This thing is great for axes. The axe is the most time consuming part. I will be clearing some of my hunting trails, a few passes on this and my machete ready to go as spring arrives. I wanted to re-profile a few of my knives. It took me less than 20 minutes to work through the various grits. I took my time and could have done it quicker. The re-profiled blade looks like a factory edge. If I took a few knives to my local shop, it would have cost me a lot more. I go to my shed now. If you are a woodsman, hunter, fisher, camper, then you are a DIYer. I would highly recommend this tool. It is very high quality. The system runs smoothly. I will be buying other work sharp products.

👤I've researched knife sharpening. I used to use a cheapo harbor freight 1x30 belt sander with angle attachment. It wasn't good. I sunk about $100 into the whole thing and now I'm afraid to throw it away. I am in love with the worksharp I just tried. The worksharp beats the wicked edge in terms of cost, labor intensity and speed. In terms of cost, setup, and speed, worksharp beats the tormek. Worksharp beats lansky/rod style systems in terms of labor intensity and speed. Oh. I haven't tried the scissor sharpening feature. I might get a maul in the future, if this thing can do the things that my kitchen knives can. I'm going to marry it. Buy a ring and propose to someone. The worksharp will get you a smooth and sharp edge in under 60 seconds, and it takes less than a minute to change belts. You only need 2 strokes on each side on the medium belt, and 5 on each side with the fine belt to achieve a working edge. The edge is sharp and I have to ease off because I notice I'm slicing into my plastic cutting board. Kitchen prep was twice as fast and half as hard as it was today. I don't need a mirror. I don't need a lot of diamond honing. I need a sharp knife almost every day in the kitchen, and I need a cheap way to maintain it. The worksharp is what it is. I'm in love. I'm going to leave bad reviews on other sharpening systems and leave good reviews for the worksharp. I'm a fanboi of WS.

👤This is the best knife sharpener I have ever owned. I've used wet stones, rods, and the like. This setup is perfect. I carry a razor sharp enough to shave. My tomahawk is sharp enough to cut paper cleanly. I've used it on everything from hunting knives to kitchen knives. I haven't had to replace a belt yet. My son's souvenir knife needed sharpening, and it put a great edge on it. I would probably be careful with cheap blades. A lot of metal will be lost. I sharpened a butter knife. There are 3 different bands. The edge profile is developed by heavy grinding. The red is medium for cutting. For honing, the grey is fine. If you want to shave, you may want to get a leather strop. I used my filet knife to slice through fish like a hot wire through butter. There is no need for $300 knife sharpeners. Get this one. There was a novelty hunting knife. The metal is bad and dull. It took just 5 minutes for the razor to be sharp. I am telling my friends to bring their knives because I have fun with it.

👤A knife collector has used several sharpening systems over the years. The lansky and the wicked edge are included. I've used the Edge Pro as well. I've spent about 2 hours with the system on 2 different blades. As I gain more experience with the system, I will update this initial thoughts. Can you get a knife sharp with this system out of the box? Answer is mostly. It depends on what you mean by "sharp". A knife cutting printer paper is the minimum that I want. It's possible that dull knives do that as well. If you are someone who has no idea about knife sharpening, you would be happy with this system. Maybe you like to have your hunting knife cleaned before the season starts. My level of sharpness is at a high standard, having used the most superior system on the market. I didn't get the sharpness I wanted out of this system in 2 hours. I tried different angles and different steels. The edge was given a decent edge by hand stropping the knife. The edge of the paper is dull. There is a flat on the edge. I made sure the knives were clean. The question is, why is this happening? It is a bit cold. I didn't use an angle finder. The Wicked Edge is a better system, but I never used one. I winged it and used it as intended and I think there is a repeatability issue that is causing knives to be dull. I'm not sure how many people use their phones or an average sized angle finder. On one side of the clamp, it is not flat. Unless you have a small angle finder, it's not possible to accurately measure a small blade. A cell phone won't work. Period. It won't sit on the surface of the clamp. A phone is too large if it is only one side. The lack of repeatability wasn't really expressed on the edge, other than it being "dull". The edge width was constant. The edges looked the same width. I'm not sure what's going on, but if I can't get a knife razor sharp, something is up. The system seems to be geared towards fixed blades. It is. It will work for folders, but it will cause problems. The clamp is not designed for small folders. You can get clearance to work if you use the corner of the blade as a guide. This isn't a problem. It's fine, but could be smaller. The stones don't really do anything. They're fine. They get the job done. They struggle a bit for good knife steels. They can abraid and dust easily. They're also brittle. I broke the 120 grit when I put it into the system. It seems like a 1000 grit. It feels coarse. It's obvious that you won't be getting a mirror finish on this system, but it's worth noting. 99% of the time, mirror finishes are worse than a toothy edge. If you're new to the scene of sharpening, here are some basic tips to help you out. Light to modest pressure is what these are used for. No need to use high pressure. Going back and fourth is acceptable. Don't do circles, they just produce an awkward finish. A lubricant is used. The water can be used to keep the stones from getting stuck. That is one of the main points of using a lubricant. When a stone gets stuck, it's useless. You should clean the stones with a rag as you sharpen them. A better edge will produce more stone life. The downside to using a lubricant is that it can get into blade pivots. It is important that you know this. A knife will never be sharp if it isn't sharp in the profile stage. You should re-profiling the edge to meet the new angle you are honing at. All material should be cleaned up. From start to finish. Use a marker. The blade of a knife will never be sharp if it does not feel sharp during this stage. The edges from the Wicked Edge system were very toothy and coarse. I knew the system was malfunctioning. I spent most of the time with this system trying to get a sharp edge, but I didn't get there. I moved on to the rest of the stones and the result was the same: dull with a fine edge. Thats how she does it. I don't regret the purchase. A good starter system. The system is versatile and you can use any stone. Guys were using files with them. I want to get better stones and a small angle finder to try and sort out this issue. I considered trying to flip the blade instead of index it. I want to see if I have better results. Will update as soon as possible.

👤I have been playing with various knife sharpening systems and Arkansas stones for 50 years. I bought one from Louise, and within 20 minutes my kitchen knives were sharp as a razor, in fact, maybe sharper than they have ever been. I have a collection of modern and antique carbon steel. Read the instructions carefully as to which knives conform to the Asian standard and which to the European and American standard. I appreciate that the edges of my knives last longer than the edges I hone on a stone or ceramic tool and then finish with a steel. This thing is above everything else. It is important to wash and dry your knives when you are done with them, every time you use them and three or four hits with the steel keep the edge sharp for a long time. The product is brilliant. I am overwhelmed by the subject that I have been studying for a long time.

👤The brand sells about 30 different electric knife sharpeners. I spent a lot of time comparing them before selecting this one. Most models can only besharpened at either 15 degrees or 20 degrees. Pocket or hunting knives are 20 degrees. The knifes are cold. Most kitchen knives are 15 degrees. I wanted the ability to make them sharper. The Chef's Choice 290 does both 15 and 20 degrees very well. I own a set of Victorinox knives. A 10 inch Chef's knife and a 6 inch filleting knife have never been used, while some have been used a lot and needed sharpening. Victorinox has knives that are sharp. I was able to make the knifes that were worn and the ones that were new in a few minutes. They sliced a piece of paper. I'm certain that you will be very pleased with the sharpener you purchase.

👤I've had my knives for 10 years and they are both 15 and 20 degree angles. I paid $60 and it seems a little pricey. I've used other knife sharpeners, but this one has made some of my knives sharper than they've ever been. It's hard to say how sharp some of them were, but I can say that for the past 10 years my knives felt like I was cutting things, and I was able to get 2 of my knives to the point where it didn't feel like I. YMMV. The price is something I don't like about this product, but the sharpness of my knives put me back into the 5 star category. P.S. I used to slowly draw knives through the sharpener until I heard the sound change, so I wouldn't throw them away. When I heard the sound change, I left them on that spot until the rest of the knife sounded the same through the sharpener, I repeated this as many times as was necessary until I could hear the entire blade sound the same. It feels like moving it through air when I have 2 knives that go through items.

👤It is easy to use. It works well. I was surprised at how easy it was tosharpen our knives.

👤It is amazing. It was quick and effective. The knife set we have is a decent quality. We decided to get this sharpener since it was cheap and we could try it out before buying new blades. We got our money's worth quickly. All of our knives are fine now. Great product!

👤I bought a set of knives from Amway a long time ago, and the instructions said they should be sharpened by a professional, not using a home sharpener. My knives got duller and duller without my noticing it, since I couldn't find any professional knife sharpeners. The eye-opener was when I tried to cut a sweet potato. I was going to have to spend a lot of money on a high-end set, but I didn't want to spend it. I bought this sharpener after seeing some reviews, but it sat in its box for a couple of weeks before I got it out and watched the video, because it arrived during a week of illnesses. I ran my knife through the first and second slots ten times after watching the video. Holy cow. The difference in sharpness was amazing. I ran the knives through the device I had in the kitchen. The results were gratifying and it was easy to do. I need to go back with some of them and give them a few more run-throughs, but the video said to start with 5 or 10 and see if it was enough for your purpose, and that's what I did. I don't think I want to be without it, so I hope this sharpener lasts a long time.

👤I spend a lot of time cooking in my recipe/cooking/lifestyle group on FaceBook. My knives take it in the shorts. The best quality chef's knife is useless if the blade is dull and dangerous. You don't cut yourself with sharp knives because of dull ones, as anyone that cooks knows. I no longer have dangerous knives in my kitchen because of this little beauty. This is an excellent sharpener and don't let the low price throw you off. It is so small you can leave it on the counter so you remember to use it. Every knife I own is razor sharp. Highly recommended...

👤I should have known better, I'm not sure how this product gets good reviews. I've tried a lot of easy peasy sharpeners over the years, and this one is no better. I'm amazed that so many people said it works for them. I used this tool for 30 minutes on a paring knife. I swear it was duller than when I started. It wouldn't cut a tomato if it wasn't squishing it. A couple of real or synthetic stones and a little work is all it takes. The afternoon after I received it, it was already packaged up for return.

👤I was able to keep one of my knives from being thrown away. I have a solid set of counter chopping block knives. We had no way tosharpen the knives I use most often because the rod sharpener broke. The knives were so dull that it was really pathetic. I bought this sharpener. I had to put the knife through the coarse sharpening side about 4-5 times to get the edge back on the knife. Wow. It was like a brand new knife. I was skeptical because of the not great quality of the knives, but this sharpener did the trick.

6. Work Sharp Culinary Kitchen Sharpener

Brand: Work Sharp

👤I've never used an electric sharpener to sharpen my knives. I've been using Japanese sharpening stones for years but it's taken me a bit of time as I use two styles of stones to hone the 5 kitchen knives I use every day. I sharpen my knives. I decided to buy the Work Sharp E2 Mini Kitchen Knife Sharpener after reading several reviews. The other models use an abrasive belt. I like the simplicity and compactness of it, but I was a bit skeptical about the sharpening ability and how long the blade edge would hold. I was pleasantly surprised the blades stayed sharp for a week. It's quick and easy, but I continue to sharpen weekly. I received a pair of replacement abrasive discs from the manufacturer after I registered my E2 Mini. I don't know how long the discs will last. The replacement abrasive discs are not available on Amazon. The manufacturer's website only shows replacement abrasive belts for their other models. I inquired about the price and availability of replacement discs on their website. Have yet to hear back from them. Here's an update. The rating was changed to 5 stars. After inquiring with the manufacturers of the Work Sharp Culinary E2 sharpener, I heard back from them. They said the E2 was a new product and they had not updated their website about replacement discs. They sent a pair of discs. I sharpen my knives. I have learned how to keep a sharp edge on them. It's easy to use. I have been using the sharpener for over three months. The discs are sharp. Have not had to replace them yet.

👤I used to use Japanese whetstones tosharpen my kitchen knives. The whetstone method produces fantastic results, unbeatable really, but is extremely time consuming if done properly, and you will experience an impressive finger injury at some point if you do not have proper technique or are not paying. The Worksharp E2 seemed to be the best of the "cheap" sharpeners, so I settled on it. I think it's a good value for the money. The machine seems well engineered for this price category. The results are okay, but not spectacular. My knives are sharper than ever. They cut into vegetables and fruit with ease, and do an okay job with meat as well. The guide is not great. If you own both western and eastern kitchen knives, you are out of luck. The "scissors guide" is smaller than the tip of my finger, and useless, because attempting to sharpen scissors on this machine resulted in something akin to a pair of conjoined butter knives. My favorite party trick was to cut a paper towel in half. That sort of thing is not going to happen with knives that are sharpened by this. If you want to get a truly honing edge, you'd want to grind at both fine and coarse grits, and the E2 doesn't allow that. You could use the much more expensive E4 sharpener.

👤I am a retired chef and have always used a sharpening stone tosharpen my knives. The device is quicker and sharper than the old one. When using the unit, be sure to exert downward pressure and use more strokes than they recommend. I recommend wiping the knife clean after each step and cleaning the blade before using it.

👤I had the ChefsChoice model # 463 for Asian knives and was not happy with it until I found out that I was using it wrong. I found out from one of the reviews that these sharpeners require a sawing motion to sharpen knives. I downloaded the.PDF instructions because I didn't have the user instructions handy. The sharpener worked well when I used it correctly. I decided to order a sharpener that works for both Asian and Euro knives. I have an electric sharpener that has good reviews, but these hand sharpeners seem to work more effectively, and they are much more useful. I tried out the sharpener on some of the steak knives we have. I could not have cut my finger on them. These knives were razor sharp and passed the paper test, even though they took 20 and 10 turns on the Euro/American slot and polishing slot, respectively. I used the Asian slot and the polishing slot on the most used Shun knife to try out the sharpener. The knife was restored to its former state. The electric one seems to do a worse job of sharpening knives than this one. You need to keep in mind that you need to put 4-5 pounds of pressure on the knife as you sharpen it, if you decide to get this sharpener. The one-directional motion used for most sharpeners is not good for sawing. If you use it correctly, you will be able tosharpen your dullest knives. I have been using this sharpener for about 2 years, and it still sharpens my knives as well as the day I bought it. I know that some people prefer sharpening stones or rods, but you have to make sure you use them at the right angle. If you don't, you can damage the knife's blade. I only use the correct slot for the type of knife I am honing and polishing when using this knife sharpener. I have to be careful when sharpening a knife. I don't cut myself. When I was in a hurry, I lightly touched the blade of the knife on my hand or finger, but didn't realize I had cut myself until I saw the blood. I hope the review helped you. If my opinion changes, I will update this review.

👤You can get great use out of this sharpener if you read the manual. You can see my experience with the video if you watch it. I've tried this on half a dozen knives and have not experienced any issues with the blade getting scratched. I think they were angling the blade too much and didn't read the manual before using it.

Brand: Sharpal

👤I bought this to make my mower blades sharper. I am writing this on the driveway as soon as I finish climbing under the tractor because I am so impressed. The blades were 3 years old and were dull from being knicked up from rocks and stumps. They feel sharper than before. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I used the ax sharpener for the first few strokes and then went to the sheer one to get a sharper edge. I'm looking forward to sharpening my yard tools now that it was so easy.

👤I'm not a person who is intuitive. I rely on clear instructions and diagrams. How complex is a sharpener? The instructions that came with the All in one Sharpener are hard to understand. The print on the instructions is small. Is it possible that no money could be spared to print the instructions on a large enough piece of paper to read them? And diagrams large enough to comprehend? The sharpener does not work on the tree trimmers without the trimmer heads breaking down. Sorry.

👤I bought to sharpen my lawn mower blades. The first set was sharper. Straight forward and very easy to use. The blades were off the mower. I prepared the mower blades with a vise and hand file to make sure they didn't have any chunks in the cut surface. I will post a picture when I am done with the second set.

👤This is the most common tool in the home. This item surpasses any other sharpener and the need for multiple sharpeners to do the same job, because of the clever embedded multiple sharpeners at different angles. I have never realized how many items need sharpening. I didn't realize how dull the blades were, even though they didn't look like it. No spare razor blades on that utility knife? From knives, scissors, to shovels, axes, chisels, mower blades, pruners, clippers, machete's and more. It will be better if you use this sharpener a few times. It will handle any straight wavy or curved blade you can find. It's not designed for a blade that's serrated. That's correct... The manufacturers should add a missing fold-in tapered rod to make this sharpener perfect.

👤I know about unorthodox use. It's a great chew toy. When I went to the grocery store, my dog bent her cage door to get to it on the table, but she was trying to hide it from me. It was mostly intact, even though I was gone longer than I expected. Despite some serious damage, it still felt good in the hand and it was built to last. Does anyone want a dog who has killed several birds, a baby, a dog leash heavier than her, and a tree that fell on my house? She was deemed untrainable by her dog trainer in York and since she's here and not in Hell, I'm guessing Satan was done with her as well.

👤I have used it on my expensive knives and garden tools. It is pretty much proof. I was told to return to the factory for regrinding and sharpening several garden tools and shovel blades to make life easier after I took a nick out of a Wusthoff blade. Definitely recommend.

Brand: Presto

👤We had some smaller paring knife types that had gotten dull over the years. Even though I tried a manual sharpener, it didn't change the sharpness for long. The knives of ours were nearly razor sharp, thanks to the electric sharpener. If you can hold the knife steady and use a steady, no pressure added, pull, then this product will razor sharpen all your knives. If you don't pay attention to what you're doing, the sharpening angles won't work, and you can damage a blade if you put too much pressure on it. I used some sharpening oil on a cloth to clean the blades before sharpening them, and noticed that the blades weren't so rough after using the oil.

👤The first stage of the knife is taken out by the wheels inside the sharpener, like the pictures show. I had knives that were useless, and you couldn't cut yourself with them. It worked very well because it was done through all stages three times. You now have a noticeable dip from the heel, it is easy to remove like 1-2mm of blade width. The first stage does this. I had other knives that were dull but not useless, and I ran them through the 2nd and 3rd stages and they are back to normal. Very nice. If you haven't done it before, you'll ruin the edge of a couple of knives, and this works and I will likely use it with some regularity. I got pretty good at it, but it's just a pain. If you've never used a stone, you can learn to grind a knife in 2 minutes, but you won't get that nice polished edge from this grinder. This works, it's easy, and the blade is sharp, could the edge be sharper? This works.

👤I ordered this for my mom over a month ago and just got to see it. Even on the smallest setting, the closing setting is too large. This is not the same as the one I have from Chef's Choice. The final wheel is the worst part. It is a hard grinding wheel, like the first two. Do not buy. Go get a chef's choice for quality.

👤I decided to try an electric sharpener after looking at a very daunting task of sharpening 20 kitchen and steak knives that I had let degrade over the last 4-5 years with a wet stone and steel. I am very happy that I did. The machine made quick work of dull, round, nicked up blades that were so dull I could see them without fear of a scratch. I started with the stage 2 slots. I didn't want my knives to be ground down quickly. This was enough to reedge the knives and then a few passes through stage three, followed by a series of passes on a ceramic hone, and I was the owner of sharp knives. Make sure you hold the blade steady with little down pressure and a constant rate of draw to get the best results. To finish off the edge, follow the directions and have a hone or steel. This machine is a great addition to my kitchen and I would not hesitate to buy it again. I ran my knives through the stage 3 a few times, hit those with my ceramic hone, and marveled at how much sharper the blade was. If you're not sure if the machine is worth the money, or if you're not sure if it will work, stop now and order it. It is very good. If you want to enjoy the new edge on your old blades, you should get this machine, it will save you hours of work and allow you to wet grind all of your knives.

👤I opened the box and submitted a review. I came back to revise my review after using this sharpener. I would give a negative star. I have a lot of things, including Japanese wet stones, Sharp-Maker, DMT Diamond plates, WorkSharp Ken Onion and WorkSharp Original. That is what being said is. I was expecting this to be a good starter kit. The concept is good. The lack of rigidity is what the Achilles Heal is about. During the sharpening process, the knife clamp is easy to move. It is not mechanically attached to the frame, but held with a couple magnets, which will ruin the secondary bevel on your blade. Work Sharp's other products have been great. This item can hurt your blade. Don't buy this unit until Work Sharp fixes the bugs. Just my 2 cents worth, from the $1,000 Tormek to the Spyderco Sharp-Maker.

👤I got mine today. It feels good and is easy to use. I've chewed through all of the steels that I've sharpened so far. Better in every way than a random field sharpener. This feels like it would be a lot better than your KMEs and ViperSharps. Absolutely recommend. I'd like to see them roll out a more complete stone set, with a strop, a really coarse stone for stock removal, and a diamond option to supplement the ceramic. I'm very excited for expansions on the platform.

👤I watched a video about the person who designed the sharpener and bought it. I liked the simplicity of its design and the ease of use, but most of all I liked the price. I was hesitant at first because I owned a Ken Onion Edition Knife and tool sharpener, but I returned it after trying to sharpen only one blade. If you're like me and have difficulty holding a steady angle and moving the blade across the abrasive in a smooth motion, it can cause the blade edge to get hot and discolored. Most of the sharpeners I have looked at are more expensive than the basic design. I've used The Razor Edge System for years and have yet to find a better one. The four pieces of this sharpener are easy to assemble without instructions. It is very portable because of its size. The abrasive grades can be used for a quick edge clean up or to put a fast and easy edge on a dull knife. The angle adjustment is easy, but I just set the abrasive on the knife edge and looked at it from the side to make my adjustments. If you have an established edge, the sharpie technique would work just as well. The pocket knife was held firmly by the clamps. You can flip the knife over and back with a push of the button on the back of the case. If I could make any changes to the sharpener, it would be: 1 - Make the abrasives a little wider. It's easy to roll the abrasive plate at a 1/2 inch wide. The abrasive rod fit needs to be tightened. There is a small amount of play in the rod when moving the abrasive holder. The blade flip push button should be easier to use. I had to use both hands to depress the button out of the box because it would loosen up over time. The design of the sharpener, ease of use, and affordable price make it a great choice.

👤I read through the manual before I received the sharpening system. I justsharpened 10 of my knives to razor sharp edges. It worked on a dollar store knife and a 1955 Sabatier K Chefs Knife. I had to read through the manual again to make sure I was using it correctly. There are a lot of complaints about it not sharpening properly or not sharpening Japanese knives, on a lot of the one-star reviews. Most of these people didn't read the manual carefully. I had a bit of trouble at first, but once I checked the manual, I had sharp knives. You need to know when to use slot 1 and when not to. If you don't have a good burr on slot 2, you won't be able to get to slot 3. You will probably dislike this device if you don't pay attention to the simple things. I found that I could take an old dull knife and use it to pass the paper and tomato tests in less than 2 minutes. America's Test Kitchen is right about the sharpener.

👤I am an avid cook with nice knives, and wanted a tool to help keep them in top form, so I was considering this sharpener. I used the ATK recommendation as the main point of reference for this sharpener. Despite reading some negative reviews, I thought there was a chance I might get a faulty unit. I did not expect the defect to be that the sharpener would gauge the sides of my knives. I did a practice run on an old knife, and had some initial problems getting the blade to flush, so I attribute the problem to the scouring. After working out the issues, I went to sharpen my chef knife and it worked the same way. It's not a good idea, especially one at this price, to do this. If the company's customer service says you should tape the sides of the knife, then they have no business selling this unit. I'll always have the gauge in my knife as an unpleasant souvenir of my Trizor XV, but it will go back immediately.

👤We don't have high quality knives, so we don't plan on buying a $500 set of knives. After reading reviews in cooking magazines and Wirecutter, I purchased this and pulled out all of our knives. Be careful with your knives, they will be sharper than before. Great marketing. It takes your normal 20 degree edges for less expensive knives and sharpens them to 15 degrees. I want to be able to cut a tomato. Pay attention to the warning. I took a knife and cut a tomato in my hand after sharpening it with this. I didn't notice that the knife kept going into my ring finger, it went through it quickly and easily. I didn't feel the cut in my finger until I saw a line and blood, but it was sharp enough that I didn't even notice. If you follow the instructions, this sharpener will make your knives sharp. I've cut my hand three times because I'm not used to being as careful with knives. The set of relatively inexpensive Cuisinart knives were converted into a very effective knife set. They are not a $600 set of knives. I wouldn't want them to be any sharper. I exceeded my expectations.
