Bodoni in Action
Giambattista Bodoni (1740–1813) was an 18th century typographer who designed hundreds of typeface during his life. Originally a typesetter for the Vatican he later went on to set up his own studio – Tipi Bodoni – where he dedicated his life to the art of creating typeface. His celebrating serif typeface has inspiration numerous modern counterparts and is still widely used today by graphic designers.
Massimo Vignelli stated ‘Bodoni is one of the most elegant typefaces ever designed.’
To celebrate this typeface a collection of examples of the typeface in use is set to be be exhibited in London. Made in Italy – Bodoni in Print opens at Protein Gallery in Shoreditch on June 10 (2016), and is organised by paper company Fedrigoni. The exhibition is also accompanied by, what looks to be, a lovely book designed by London design studio Sea. A must visit for type lovers.
